October 2007 Diver of the Month

Next Generation Diving Team

Christina Brasco

Christina Brasco came to our team exactly one year ago, from her former program in New Canaan.  Upon the switch, Christina had to commit to making some major changes to her diving, which required physical, mental, and emotional dedication.  Within a month, the coaches were able to see that Christina had taken our challenge seriously.  She first began by focusing on changing her mechanics.  She then learned a number of extremely challenging dives, including back 2 1/2, inward 2 1/2 and back 1 1/2 somersaults with 2 1/2 twists.  And finally, the mental piece began to fall into place.  Though as it is for any diver that will be a constant exercise and progression.  However, after less than a year, we saw Christina make giant leaps in terms of her goals and qualify for a number of elite level meets.  Christina qualified for and competed at the U.S. East National Championships, the AAU National Championships, and the YMCA National Championships.  She has just completed her high school season and as a sophomore should be quite proud of her accomplishments.  She was 2nd in her conference meet, 2nd in her class State meet, and achieved the qualifying score for All-American status.  Christina has been an incredibly positive addition to our team and we cannot imagine it without her.  The team and the coaches now simply wait with baited breath to hear about Christina learning reverse 2 1/2!!
