November 2007 Diver of the Month

Next Generation Diving Team

Ali Miller

The coaches of Nextgen are so proud to announce our November D.O.M. is Alison Miller, a junior from Fairfield Ludlowe High School.  Ali joined our team only a year ago and has made incredible leaps in her goal of being a nationally competitive diver and being ready to dive for a Division I college.  Coming in with virtually no three-meter experience, she has to date learned all but 2 dives (which she plans on learning this month) out of her 9 dive required list.  She has a very competitive one-meter list, including back 1 1/2 somersaults, reverse 1 1/2 somersaults, inward 1 1/2 somersaults, back 1 1/2 somersaults with a half twist, forward 1 1/2 somersaults with a full twist, forward 2 somersaults and is working on her forward 2 1/2.  Ali has become a big presence on our team, and was actually nominated for D.O.M. by a teammate (an unprecedented act).  In the e-mail request to make Ali November's D.O.M., Hanna Merrill said, "she is fully committed to the team. She always attempts new dives, a talent all divers should have and over the time I have been diving with Ali I have seen her begin to love the sport more and more. Most of all Ali is a great role model to ALL of the younger divers, no matter how annoying, how small, or how hyper he/she is."  I personally loved the last sentence :)  While the coaches fully concurred with her teammates assessment, we were even more pleased that the team is taking such an active interest in who receives the award, and that they have chosen Ali.  Congratulations Al!!  We are so happy you have decided to make diving your sport!
