December 2006 Diver of the Month
Next Generation Diving Team

Meg Collins
Meagan Collins is one of the newest members of the Next Gen Diving Team. Being a "deserter" of the New Canaan YMCA program, an act we often try to discourage, the coaches had a hard time turning down the request from this athlete. She came to us as a Darien High School senior, being recruited by a number of Division I colleges, and a 2007 YMCA National Champion. Having the luxury of knowing Meg as one of my students at DHS and a diver on the DHS team, I knew that what Meg had to offer us was far more than her talent. Meg has a desire and a work-ethic that are undeniable. When looking through the glass at the Norwalk Y, you will often see Meg doing additional ab work or dry-land training between dives. And her mental focus and physical motivation have helped her achieve great success in the sport. Meg is an excellent role model not just for our younger divers, but for her peers. And though I could end my rave about Meg here, this wouldn't really be complete without the mention of her SMACK on back 1 1/2 somersaults with 2 1/2 twists on three-meter!!! Definitely one of the best hits any diver on Nextgen has taken :) Meg, I know the whole team joins me in congratulating you on D.O.M., on your early acceptance to Middlebury College, but more importantly for joining and becoming a beloved member of our team!
