The AAU is the Amateur Athletic Union.  They are a governing body for many different kinds of sports.  In an effort to offer more competitions at a more feasible rate, most coaches around the country have their teams join and participate in the AAU.  Most local competitions, are AAU supported.  The AAU also offers a National Championship that is qualified for based on score, rather than a qualifying competition.  This score can be achieved at any number of the local competitions as well as high school and U.S. Diving competitions.  The following are the score requirements to compete in this summers AAU Nationals at Georgia Tech University in Atlanta, GA.
